How to give yourself more rewards!

How did you go with the habit-stacking exercise from last week?

I hope you’ve identified new habits to add to the ones already working on autopilot.

The outcome is well worth it.

At the end of this month, with another ten months to go, I want to ask you: What is the one important goal you strongly desire to accomplish?

Can you identify what is holding you back from achieving it?

You must identify the thinking that sabotages your ability to achieve this goal. Sometimes we need to uncover the thinking we allow to sabotage our progress.

Let’s see if you share any of these common excuses:

  • I don’t feel like it.
  • I feel overwhelmed.
  • It’s not urgent.
  • It’s too hard, and I feel tired.
  • What if I get it together and it doesn’t work?
  • What if it takes too much time?
  • What if I fail?
  • What do my friends and family think of my goals?

It helps to make a list of your “best excuses”.

When you lay them out in front of you, developing a strategy to combat them is much easier.

My favourite strategy is to take that goal and break it into smaller, more achievable steps. That way, I get encouragement each time I complete a smaller goal.**

Whether our list of obstacles is short or way too long, we need to change the conversation we have with ourselves.

What we say to ourselves is possibly the most powerful thing in our lives.

We talk to ourselves all the time, and occasionally we let others join in!

Start talking to yourself like you would talk to your best friend or most admired hero. Speak words that build connection, confidence and competence and avoid putting yourself down.

This is such an important issue that I will focus on it next week.

We all need help with this, as it affects every area of our lives.
